Breathing New Life into a 1950s Classic.
At The Durbin Compound, we believe even the smallest spaces can make the biggest impact. Every corner of a home has potential, and with the right vision, even the most overlooked areas can be turned into something extraordinary. This project took a tight, outdated layout and transformed it into a stylish, highly functional retreat—proving that smart design paired with expert craftsmanship can completely change the way a home feels and functions.
What We Did:
Custom Cabinets – We went above and beyond to maximize every inch of what used to be a narrow galley kitchen. By working closely with our trade partners, we created cabinetry that not only fit the awkward space but made it practical and beautiful. The countertops became the true showpiece, featuring a bold waterfall edge that anchors the room with elegance and personality.
A Range to Envy – Appliances deserve their moment in the spotlight, and this kitchen certainly delivers. A Frigidaire professional gas range takes center stage, complemented by a fully custom range hood that immediately draws attention as you step through the front door. Floating shelves soften the space while providing functionality, and the tile backsplash ties it all together, creating a warm, welcoming hub where cooking and conversation go hand in hand.
A Secluded Master Suite – Privacy and comfort were top priorities. Instead of leaving the master suite connected from multiple directions, we redesigned it to be its own private escape. This allowed us to expand the bathroom into a spacious retreat featuring a dual shower head shower and a 72" vanity — amenities far beyond the cramped bathrooms most homeowners are used to. An expanded closet with generous storage ensures the space will serve the family well for years to come, with even the option to add a laundry upstairs down the road. Every detail was intentionally planned to provide lasting comfort without the need for another renovation as the family’s needs evolve.
Unfinished Basement to OMG! – The basement was once an afterthought, but now it’s a destination. We poured time and detail into designing a rec room that flows seamlessly into a thoughtfully finished bathroom and laundry area. Every finish and fixture was selected with the same care as the upstairs spaces, ensuring this lower level feels just as welcoming, polished, and complete as the rest of the home.

MCCABE BATHROOM
Designing a future rooted in dignity.
At The Durbin Compound, we believe great design goes beyond aesthetics. This project presented a unique challenge: creating a bathroom that can adapt to the client’s changing needs over time, including the possibility of future wheelchair use. The goal was to design a space that feels masculine, timeless, and cohesive with the rest of the home, with thoughtful accessibility features seamlessly integrated into the design rather than making the space feel clinical or disability focused.
What We Did:
Custom Cabinetry – Designed a custom oak pull-out vanity that nests beneath a wall-hung, ADA-compliant sink. The cabinet can slide out to provide wheelchair access in the future without requiring additional renovations.
Accessible Shower Design – Incorporated strategically placed Kohler Belay grab rails and a fold-down teak shower seat to improve safety, support transfers, and maintain an open, spacious feel when the seat is not in use.
Smart Toilet Technology – Gifted the client a smart toilet with a bidet and remote control, offering convenient, one-touch operation to help simplify daily routines as dexterity changes over time.
Thoughtful Safety Features – Planned the layout around the client's evolving needs, incorporating accessibility features that support independence and comfort.
Modern, Timeless Finishes – Created a sleek, masculine aesthetic with updated lighting to improve visibility and finishes that complement the rest of the home, ensuring the space feels like a thoughtfully designed bathroom rather than a medical environment.

a bathroom designed for relaxation.
At The Durbin Compound, we believe a bathroom should be more than just a necessity—it should be a personal retreat. Our latest renovation transformed an outdated space into a spa-like sanctuary, combining modern design with ultimate comfort and functionality. Every detail was carefully chosen to create an environment that feels both luxurious and inviting.
What We Did:
Custom Vanity & Storage – A sleek, modern vanity provides ample counter space and storage, keeping essentials neatly tucked away while enhancing the room’s elegance. Thoughtfully designed cabinetry ensures both form and function, creating a clean and clutter-free space.
Luxury Shower Upgrade – A fully customized walk-in shower serves as the focal point of the bathroom, featuring beautiful tile work, a rainfall shower head, and a full length niche for added convenience. High-end finishes and glass enclosures give the space an open, airy feel.
Stunning Tile Work – Carefully selected tile brings texture and depth to the design. From the shower walls to the flooring, every tile was chosen to complement the overall aesthetic while providing durability and easy maintenance.
Modern Fixtures & Finishes – Updated faucets, lighting, and hardware add a contemporary touch, elevating the bathroom’s sophistication while ensuring long-term performance.
Enhanced Lighting – A mix of ambient, task, and accent lighting creates a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Thoughtful placement ensures the perfect balance between functionality and mood-setting illumination.
